Ports of Stockholm increase solar electricity production

23 May 2024

The Swedish Ports of Stockholm will see a 55% surge in solar electricity production, with the construction of six new rooftop solar cell systems, significantly increasing its total production capacity from 995 MWh/year to 1,545 MWh/year. This project from the Ports of Stockholm is aligned with the City of Stockholm's initiative to achieve a fossil fuel-free status by 2040.

These new installations, located on the rooftops of the ports of Frihamnen, Värtahamnen and Kapellskär, are scheduled to start construction in the first and second quarter of 2024 and be operational in the summer of 2024. By generating its own power, Ports of Stockholm aim to reduce dependence on external electricity suppliers and lower electricity costs. This initiative is part of Ports of Stockholm's broader commitment to sustainable port operations and shipping, and the company is already on track to achieve its goal of increasing solar electricity by 50% by 2024.
