HAROPA Port to deliver a large onshore power supply (OPS) system for cruise ships

10 May 2024

The use of shore power is increasing as the transition away from diesel fuel while ships are in port accelerates. In this sense, the onshore power supply (OPS) installation at HAROPA Port, a multimodal terminal in Le Havre known for its important tourism and commercial activities, is expected to contribute to tourism growth, economic development and environmental sustainability.

A high-voltage onshore power supply system for cruise ships docking at the Pointe de Floride terminal will soon be delivered. This system will connect the three berths to a substation connected to the public grid, allowing the ships' batteries to be charged. A specialized mobile docking platform will adapt to the port's tidal range and cover the entire length of the berths to serve vessels of different sizes. The project, valued at €25 million, plans to supply 11 kV to each of the berths, with completion of the first section, the Pierre Callet berth, scheduled for spring 2025.
