Green shipping corridor between Port of Turku and Ports of Stockholm

10 May 2024

Ports of Stockholm, the Port of Turku, and Viking Line are collaborating to establish a green shipping corridor between Turku and Stockholm. This corridor aims to transition to entirely fossil fuel-free operations by the year 2035.The announced partnership is intended to serve as an innovative platform focused on developing scalable solutions to phase out fossil fuels and promote green shipping.

The project and the partnership between Sweden and Finland are considered as a green maritime corridor under the Clydebank Declaration. This initiative anticipates the EU's "Fit for 55" strategy. The partners aim to progressively reduce carbon dioxide emissions and ultimately establish a fossil fuel-free corridor. The collaboration may be extended to involve other stakeholders in the shipping industry, as well as ports, cargo owners and freight forwarding companies.
