The Port of Rotterdam opens first charging station for electric trucks

10 May 2024

The Port of Rotterdam Authority emphasises sustainable logistics as crucial for achieving a future-proof port with net zero CO2 emissions. They have installed charging infrastructure for trucks to promote sustainability, with electric cargo transport, improving air quality in the port. At the Bodaanweg truck park in the Waalhaven, up to eight electric trucks can now recharge concurrently, thanks to the installation of five charging stations.

A 2022 study forecasts around 2,000 electric trucks in the area by 2030, requiring about 50 charging points. Access to the charging points is currently without reservation, and e-trucks are exempt from parking fees, utilising the secure truck park facilities.
