The Port of Huelva in the planning of a green methanol plant

24 May 2024

The Port of Huelva in Spain will host a green methanol plant to be built by Cepsa and C2X. The plant aims to achieve an annual production capacity of 300,000 tonnes of green methanol, which could reduce CO2 emissions by up to one million tonnes per year. In addition, the project is expected to create 2,500 new jobs in the Andalusian region.

Andalusia's renewable electricity capacity, along with its robust industrial and port infrastructure, positions it as a crucial global location for green methanol production. Methanol, with its low-emission combustion, is being considered as a potential future fuel for workboats.
