The Port of Gothenburg is testing green hydrogen for off-grid electricity supply

28 June 2024

The Port of Gothenburg, is using Hyflex, a containerised hydrogen fuel cell and battery system, for heavy-duty construction purposes. The system, equipped with a 100-kilowatt (kW) fuel cell, uses green hydrogen, with the generator for electricity production from hydrogen. This setup was employed from March 4th to 17th, 2024, at the Arendal 2 construction site to power an excavator. The plug and play solution comprises various components such as fuel cell modules, power electronics, cooling, auxiliary systems, and an intelligent control system, all packaged in a plug-and-play format.

It can be highlighted that green hydrogen offers a clean, and reliable, energy solution for off-grid electricity supply in ports, supporting sustainable and resilient port operations.
